Regina Belle was born on July 17, 1963, and grew up in Englewood, New Jersey, where her passion for music blossomed in the church choir. Alongside her vocal training, she honed her skills on various instruments, including drums and tuba. This diverse musical background laid the foundation for her later success as a singer-songwriter.
As a young artist, Regina Belle began her professional career by opening for the renowned group the Manhattans. Her collaboration with them on the song “Where Did We Go Wrong” drew significant attention, cementing her talent and potential. This exposure caught the eye of record labels, and by the late 1980s, Belle signed with Columbia Records.
Her debut album, All By Myself, was released in 1987, marking the beginning of a successful recording career. This was followed by her second album, Stay with Me, in 1989. Over the next two decades, Belle continued to produce a series of well-received albums, including Passion (1993), Reachin’ Back (1995), and This Is Regina! (2001). Notable charting singles from her discography include “Show Me The Way,” “Without You,” and “Make It Like It Was,” showcasing her versatile vocal style.
Among her many achievements, Regina Belle is perhaps best known for her collaborations with Peabo Bryson. Their warm and heartfelt duets, such as “Without You,” “A Whole New World,” and “I Just Can't Imagine,” garnered her both commercial success and critical acclaim. The latter, “A Whole New World,” won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 1994 and was featured as the main theme of Disney's Aladdin. Their magical partnership has left a lasting impact on the world of contemporary music.
In addition to her successful duets, Miss Belle recorded the theme song "Far Longer than Forever," performed with Jeffrey Osborne for the animated film The Swan Princess, which earned a Golden Globe nomination in 1995 for Best Original Song. Her ability to connect with audiences through her music has solidified her place as an iconic artist in the industry.
Regina Belle continues to captivate fans with her performances, having released her latest album, The Day Life Began, in 2016. She remains an active presence in the music scene, frequently appearing in concerts alongside notable artists like Al Jarreau, Paul Taylor, Frankie Beverly, and Stephanie Mills. With a rich career spanning several decades, Regina Belle remains a beloved figure in the world of R&B and soul music, continuing to share her remarkable talent with fans around the world.
