Beck Biography

Beck David Hansen, known mononymously as Beck, was born on July 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of Bibbe Hansen and musician David Campbell, whose artistic influence shaped Beck's early interests in music. After high school, Beck moved to Washington State and began performing at open-mic events in Seattle. He later returned to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue performance opportunities until he released his debut album, "Golden Feelings," in 1993, originally available only on cassette.

Shortly after this debut, Beck signed with Bong Load Custom Records and achieved widespread acclaim with the release of his breakout single, "Loser." The song's success attracted the attention of major record labels, and Beck ultimately signed with Geffen Records, seeking the creative freedom to explore his eclectic musical style. His subsequent albums, "Stereopathetic Soulmanure" (1994) and "Mellow Gold" (1994), solidified his place in the music industry, particularly with "Loser" serving as the lead single for "Mellow Gold."

Over the years, Beck has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including "Odelay" (1996), "Mutations" (1998), "Midnight Vultures" (1999), "Sea Change" (2002), "Guero" (2005), "The Information" (2006), "Modern Guilt" (2008), and "Hyperspace" (2019). His innovative approach to music, encompassing genres such as folk, funk, hip hop, electronica, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia, has garnered him recognition as one of the most creative musicians of his generation. In addition to his studio work, Beck has collaborated with numerous artists, such as Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jamie Lidell, and Philip Glass, often taking on the role of producer. He has contributed music to various film soundtracks, including those for "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," "True Blood," and the "Twilight Saga." Beck's eclectic artistry extends beyond music; he is also a visual artist and poet, having showcased his artwork in a traveling exhibit in 1998.
