Angela Winbush Biography

Angela Lisa Winbush (born January 18, 1955) is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer who gained prominence in the music industry in the 1980s. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Angela began her musical journey in church, where she developed her vocal skills. Initially aspiring to become an architect, she enrolled at Howard University to study architecture but soon shifted her focus to music, changing her major to music education. Over her career, Angela Winbush has sold over 10 million albums and singles globally.

Angela's music career took a significant turn when she became a vocalist in Stevie Wonder's backing group, Wonderlove. This opportunity not only allowed her to learn about songwriting and arranging, but it also introduced her to singer Ren? Moore. The pair formed the duo Ren? & Angela in 1980, beginning a successful collaboration that would define their careers. Their self-titled debut album, Rene & Angela, was released in 1980, followed by Wall to Wall in 1982 and Rise in 1983. During this time, they achieved notable success with top 20 R&B hits, such as "I Love You More" and "My First Love," and Angela proved herself as a talented songwriter, crafting hits for notable artists like Janet Jackson and Stephanie Mills.

By the late 1980s, Angela Winbush embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut solo album Sharp in 1987.
