Engelbert Humperdinck, born Arnold George Dorsey on May 2, 1936, in Madras, India, is a British pop singer renowned for his smooth ballads and captivating stage presence. Raised in Leicester, England, he began his musical journey at a young age, showcasing his talent on the saxophone by the age of eleven. Initially performing under the name "Gerry Dorsey" in the late 1950s, Humperdinck struggled to gain traction until a pivotal partnership with manager Gordon Mills in 1965 led to a dramatic transformation in his career, including adopting the stage name of the German composer Engelbert Humperdinck.

Humperdinck achieved international fame in 1967 with his single "Release Me," which became a massive success, selling over a million copies and topping the UK Singles Chart.
