Simply Red Biography

Simply Red is an English soul and pop band formed in Manchester in 1985 by founding members Elliot Rashman and Mick Hucknall. The duo quickly expanded their lineup by enlisting session musicians David Fryman, Tony Bowers, Fritz McIntyre, Tim Kellett, and Chris Jones. After signing with Elektra Records, Simply Red made their mark with the debut single 鈥淢oney鈥檚 Too Tight (To Mention),鈥 which received critical acclaim and commercial success, setting the stage for their future endeavors.

In the same year, 1985, the band released their debut album, *Picture Book*. While the album initially launched several singles, many did not achieve significant chart success until Simply Red experienced a breakthrough with the release of 鈥淗olding Back the Years.鈥 This poignant ballad catapulted the band to international fame, reaching the top five on charts in the United States, the UK, the Netherlands, and Ireland. Simply Red鈥檚 success extended beyond the UK, as they achieved Billboard Hot 100 number one hits in the US with 鈥淗olding Back the Years鈥 and 鈥淚f You Don鈥檛 Know Me by Now.鈥 The band received numerous accolades throughout their career, including two Brit Awards for Best British Group in 1992 and 1993, and Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist. Their rendition of 鈥淚f You Don鈥檛 Know Me by Now鈥 won a Grammy for Best R&B Song, showcasing their profound impact on the music industry.

Despite disbanding in 2010, Simply Red announced a reunion tour for 2015, much to the excitement of their dedicated fanbase.
