Amerie Mi Marie Rogers, known simply as Amerie, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and writer born on January 12, 1980, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She spent her early childhood in South Korea due to her mother's heritage and moved frequently during her upbringing because of her father?? military career. This diverse upbringing shaped her musical influences and contributed to her disciplined and competitive nature, which helped her excel academically and in the arts.
Amerie attended Georgetown University, where she pursued a degree in English and a minor in Fine Arts. During her time at Georgetown, she also participated in Navy ROTC but eventually decided to quit after her sophomore year. It was at Georgetown that she met a club promoter who connected her with producer Rich Harrison. Their collaboration began in an unconventional way, with a creative meeting in a McDonald's parking lot, where Harrison played tracks that Amerie sang along to, leading to an immediate creative rapport.
In 2002, Amerie signed a recording contract with Columbia Records and released her debut album, "All I Have." The album featured the hit single "Why Don?? We Fall in Love," which became a commercial success, reaching the top twenty on mainstream charts and securing a significant position on the R&B and dance charts. This achievement earned her a Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist, along with nominations for the BET Awards and Image Awards.
Following her successful debut, Amerie released several other albums, including "Touch" in 2005, "Because I Love It" in 2007, and "In Love & War" in 2009. Her sophomore album "Touch" featured the acclaimed single "1 Thing," which garnered two Grammy Award nominations and solidified her status in the music industry. Amerie?? discography also includes singles such as "Talkin' to Me," "Heard 'em All," and "Pretty Brown," showcasing her versatility and appeal as an artist.
In 2009, Amerie made a strategic move by switching labels to Island Def Jam, just before releasing "In Love & War." Throughout her career, she has continued to receive recognition, including multiple nominations from the MTV Video Music Awards and the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards.
Although Amerie's primary focus has been on her music career, she has also pursued acting. Her notable role was as Mia Thompson in the 2004 film "First Daughter." This film role, along with her small appearances in other productions, reflects her multifaceted talent in both music and acting.
As of now, Amerie has released four studio albums and has made a significant impact on the R&B genre with her distinct sound and style. Her career continues to evolve, and she remains an influential figure in the music industry.
