Eric Patrick Clapton, born on March 30, 1945, in Ripley, Surrey, England, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful rock and blues guitarists in music history. From a young age, Clapton exhibited a passion for music that began with a birthday gift of an acoustic guitar. He was profoundly shaped by the sounds of iconic blues musicians such as Howlin’ Wolf, Son House, and Robert Johnson, leading him to develop a unique guitar style that he first showcased during his time with the Yardbirds and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the mid-1960s.

In 1966, Clapton co-founded the groundbreaking supergroup Cream alongside drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Jack Bruce. With signature tracks like “White Room” and “Sunshine of Your Love,” the band's pioneering blend of blues and psychedelic rock solidified Clapton's reputation as a standout guitarist. Following Cream's breakup in 1968, he formed the short-lived band Blind Faith and subsequently launched a successful solo career, beginning with his eponymous album in 1970.
