Amber Biography

Marie-Claire Cremers, professionally known as Amber, was born on May 9, 1969, in the Netherlands. She began her career as a songwriter, spending several years developing her craft. Amber gained significant attention when her demo, "This Is Your Night," started attracting interest from major record labels not only for its composition but also for her vocal performance. She subsequently signed with Tommy Boy Records, and the song was released as a single, quickly becoming one of the biggest hits of the late 1990s.

Amber's debut album, "This Is Your Night," was released in 1996 and featured the title track along with other successful songs like "Colour of Love" and "One More Night." In 1998, she achieved further international acclaim with the song "If You Could Read My Mind," which she recorded with Jocelyn Enriques and Ultra Nat?. Following her initial success, Amber released her second album, "Amber," in 1999, and subsequently released "Naked" in 2002, which marked a significant milestone in her career. The album included the popular dance single "Sexual (Li Da Di)" and other hits like "Above the Clouds," "Love One Another," "Yes!," and "The Need to be Naked."

In 2004, Amber released "My Kind of World," featuring tracks such as "Anyway (Men are From Mars)," "You Move Me," "Voodoo," "Just Like That," and "Melt With the Sun." That same year, she also produced a dance compilation album titled "Undanced," followed by its sequel, "Undanced II," in 2007.

Amber has gained a loyal following within the dance music community and has earned recognition as an icon in the LGBTQ+ community, frequently headlining Pride celebrations in various cities, including Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Portland, and Providence. Her commitment to advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights has reinforced her status as one of the prominent figures in the genre, earning her the title of "Queens of Pride."

In recent years, Amber's career has witnessed a resurgence. In 2022, Tommy Boy Records, now under Reservoir Media, began releasing previously vaulted remixes of her songs on digital platforms. Six out of nine of these releases reached the Top 3 on the iTunes US Dance Albums Chart, with four hitting number one, including remixes of "Above the Clouds," "Love One Another," "Colour of Love," and a 25th Anniversary Edition of "If You Could Read My Mind."
