Aaron Dupree Tippin was born on July 3, 1958, in Pensacola, Florida, and spent his formative years in South Carolina. Initially aiming for a career in aviation, he worked as a commercial pilot before shifting his focus to music. In the mid-1980s, Tippin relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he entered and won a vocal contest that ultimately led to a song-publishing contract, marking the beginning of his career as a singer and songwriter.
Tippin began his professional journey working with Reba McEntire at Starstruck Entertainment, where he remained for nearly a decade. Early in this period, he secured a recording contract with RCA in 1991. His debut album, featuring the lead single "You've Got to Stand for Something," was released the same year. The song's patriotic theme resonated with many, coinciding with the onset of the Gulf War and becoming an anthem for American soldiers.
Throughout his career, Aaron Tippin has released a series of successful albums and singles that often reflect themes of patriotism and working-class values. Notable albums include "Read Between the Lines" (1992), "Call of the Wild" (1993), "Lookin’ Back at Myself" (1994), "Tool Box" (1995), "What This Country Needs" (1998), "People Like Us" (2000), and "Stars & Stripes" (2002), among others. Many of these albums produced hit singles such as "I Wonder How Far it Is Over You" (1991), "There Ain't Nothin' Wrong with the Radio" (1992), "Workin' Man’s Ph.D." (1993), and " Kiss This" (2000), contributing to his recognition in the country music scene.
Despite the popularity of his music, few of Tippin's singles crossed over to mainstream charts, although he consistently achieved success in the country charts. Over thirty of his songs have appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, with three reaching the number one position: "There Ain't Nothin' Wrong with the Radio," "That's as Close as I'll Get to Loving You," and " Kiss This." His single "Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly," released shortly after the September 11 attacks, also garnered significant attention.
Following his successful tenure with RCA, Tippin transitioned to Lyric Street Records in 1998, where he produced four additional studio albums and a Christmas music compilation. After departing from Lyric Street in 2006, he established Nippit Records and released the compilation album "Now & Then" and the concept album "In Overdrive" in 2009.
To date, Aaron Tippin has released a total of nine studio albums and two compilations, with several achieving gold and platinum certifications. He continues to record and perform, maintaining his status as a notable figure in country music. His latest album, "Aaron Tippin 25," was released in 2015, celebrating his enduring career in the industry.
