Connie Stevens, born Concetta Rosalie Ann Ingoglia on August 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, is an accomplished American actress and singer. Growing up in a musically inclined family—her father was a well-established actor—Connie adopted her father's stage name when she embarked on her own entertainment career. After honing her talents in various singing groups in New York, she moved to Los Angeles with her father, where she began to secure small roles in films and continued to develop her artistic identity.
Stevens's breakthrough came after Jerry Lewis discovered her performance in one of her films, casting her in the 1958 comedy Rock-A-Bye Baby. This pivotal role led to her first contract with Warner Brothers, which ultimately launched her into stardom. She gained national recognition in the early 1960s for her portrayal of Cricket Blake on the hit television series Hawaiian Eye, alongside notable co-stars Robert Conrad and Anthony Eisley. The show's success catapulted her into the public spotlight, making her a household name.
In addition to her acting career, Connie Stevens ventured into music, releasing her debut album, Concetta, in 1958. Her musical career took off with the hit single "Sixteen Reasons," which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the UK Singles Chart in 1960. Despite the demands of her flourishing acting career, during which she appeared in popular films like Parrish (1961), Palm Springs Weekend (1963), and Grease 2 (1982), her passion for music persisted, leading to additional albums, including From Me to You and The Hank Williams Song Book in 1962.
Throughout the late 1960s, 1970s, and into the 1980s, Stevens continued to dominate the film industry, taking on diverse roles in notable films such as Two on a Guillotine (1965), Way… Way Out (1966), The Grissom Gang (1971), and Back to the Beach (1987). By the 1990s, she embraced live performances on the Las Vegas Strip, further solidifying her reputation as a multifaceted entertainer, while concurrently moving behind the camera.
In 1997, Connie made her directorial debut with the documentary A Healing, showcasing her versatile talents in both performance and storytelling. She continued her directorial journey with the feature film Saving Grace B. Jones in 2009, which she also wrote and produced, drawing inspiration from her own childhood experiences. Stevens remains an active figure in the entertainment industry, releasing albums such as Sensational and The Very Best of Connie Stevens in 2012.
