Awolnation Biography

Awolnation, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 2009, is fronted by Aaron Bruno, who previously performed with bands including Under the Influence of Giants and Home Town Hero. The formation of Awolnation provided Bruno with a platform to explore his original compositions. Alongside him, the initial lineup included David Amezcua (bass), Tony Royster Jr. (drums), Devin Hoffman (keyboards), and Christopher Thorn (guitar).

The band's debut studio album, "Megalithic Symphony", was released on March 15, 2011, and showcased hit singles such as "Not Your Fault," "Kill Your Heroes," and the standout track "Sail." The latter proved to be immensely popular, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and rising to the top of the rock charts. Its prominence was bolstered by features in commercials and its use during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, ultimately leading to global recognition.

"Megalithic Symphony" achieved platinum certification by February 2016, with "Sail" becoming a significant success, earning a diamond certification from the RIAA in 2021 for selling over 10 million copies in the United States. The album itself reached the top twenty on both the alternative and rock charts, solidifying Awolnation as a notable presence in the music industry.

Following their debut, Awolnation released two EPs, "Re/SAIL" and "I’ve Been Dreaming", in 2012. While they have not released a sophomore album immediately after their debut, the band's music has been prominently featured in various television shows. Notable tracks include "Burn It Down," used in "Sons of Anarchy", "Guilty Filthy Soul" from "The Vampire Diaries", and "All I Need," featured on both " Common Law" and "Whitney".

In addition to developing new music, Awolnation continues to perform with its current lineup, which includes Aaron Bruno, Drew Stewart (guitar), Kenny Carkeet (keyboards), and Isaac Carpenter (drums). Their single "Thiskidsnotalright" was released in 2013 and entered the top forty on mainstream charts.

The band has since expanded its discography with additional studio albums, including "Run" (2015), "Here Come the Runts" (2018), and "Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders" (2020). Most recently, they released a covers album titled "My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers, and Me" on May 6, 2022, and are set to release their sixth studio album, "The Phantom Five", on August 30, 2024.
