Afrojack, whose real name is Nick van de Wall, was born in 1987 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He began his musical journey at the age of 14, DJing at local pubs and clubs while also designing websites for fellow musicians. In 2007, he released his first recording, "In Your Face," under the Afrojack name, which marked the beginning of his rise in the electronic dance music scene. He gained international recognition with the hit song "Take Over Control," featuring Eva Simons, which charted in ten countries.
In 2010, Afrojack entered DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list for the first time, debuting at number 19, the highest new entry that year. He further ascended the ranks, securing the seventh position in 2011, the ninth in 2012, and consistently ranking within the top ten, including a return to number nine in 2013. His involvement in the EDM scene expanded with the release of the Lost & Found EP in December 2010 and subsequent collaborations.
Afrojack achieved mainstream success in 2011 as a featured artist on Pitbull's number one hit "Give Me Everything," along with Ne-Yo and Nayer. He also contributed to Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)" and was recognized with a European Border Breakers Award in 2012. His single "The Spark," featuring Spree Wilson, performed well, reaching number three in Australia and New Zealand and entering the top ten in multiple other countries.
Throughout his career, Afrojack produced music for various artists, including David Guetta and Madonna. He headlined major electronic dance music festivals like Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and Coachella. His debut album, Forget the World, was released in May 2014, although it received mixed reviews from critics. In 2015, he collaborated on David Guetta’s single "Hey Mama," featuring Nicki Minaj and Bebe Rexha.
Afrojack has continued to release new music, including the 2017 NLW EP, under a new alias known for underground-style tracks. His song "Braver" was featured in the video game Final Fantasy XV, and he appeared in the 2016 documentary about DJ Steve Aoki, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2018, he released tracks such as "Bed of Roses" and debuted new material at Tomorrowland.
In recent years, Afrojack has remained active in the music industry, collaborating with high-profile artists like David Guetta on the track "Trampoline" in March 2022, and announcing a "Jack to the Future" US tour later that year. Since 2007, he has also managed Wall Recordings, a label that represents various producers and has undergone changes in its operating status, once being a sub-label of Spinnin' Records and later Armada Music before becoming independent again in 2019. Afrojack continues to be a prominent figure in the electronic music landscape, with plans for future releases and performances.
