Above And Beyond Biography

Above & Beyond is an English progressive trance group formed in 2000, consisting of DJs Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki. The group's roots trace back to 1999 when Siljamäki and Grant, both students at the University of Westminster, began collaborating on music after discovering their mutual passion for electronic music. They initially established their own label, releasing dance mixes that garnered attention in the electronic music scene.

The group's breakthrough came with their first major remix, Chakra's "Home," which topped the UK club charts. This success caught the attention of Tony McGuinness, then Marketing Director for Warner Music Group, who helped solidify the trio’s formation. Following their debut, Above & Beyond was commissioned to remix several high-profile tracks, including Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl" and Aurora's "Ordinary World," further establishing their reputation in the industry.

By the early 2000s, Above & Beyond made their live performance debut in Tokyo, subsequently performing in renowned locations such as Ibiza and the Glastonbury Festival. The group's discography includes notable albums such as "Tri-State" (2006), "Group Therapy" (2011), "Acoustic" (2014), and "We Are All We Need" (2015). Many of their tracks, including “No One on Earth” and “Good for Me” (featuring Zoe Johnston), “Air For Life” (featuring Andy Moor), and “Sun & Moon” (featuring Richard Bedford), have become anthems in the electronic music scene.

Above & Beyond gained further acclaim with the release of “We’re All We Need,” featuring Zoe Johnston, which earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. The group has received numerous accolades, including nominations from the Beatport Music Awards, DJ Awards in Ibiza, and the International Dance Music Awards. They have consistently ranked in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs Poll, achieving their highest position at No. 4 in 2008.

In addition to their musical releases, Above & Beyond operates London-based electronic dance music labels Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep, and Anjunachill. They also host a weekly radio show called "Group Therapy Radio," which has contributed to their international reach and influence in the electronic music genre.

As the group continued to evolve, they released the single "Tightrope" featuring Marty Longstaff on August 4, 2017, followed by "My Own Hymn," "Northern Soul," and "Always" featuring Zoë Johnston, which was accompanied by a visually striking music video filmed in the French Alps. Their album "Common Ground," released on January 26, 2018, included these singles and further showcased their musical versatility.

In June 2019, Above & Beyond announced their fifth album, "Flow State," which features an entirely ambient sound and was released on July 19, 2019. The track "Don't Leave" from this album achieved gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2022, underscoring the group's sustained impact and popularity in the music industry.
