Allie X Biography
Allie X, born Alexandra Ashley Hughes on July 31, 1985, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and visual artist known for her contributions to the indie pop genre. Growing up in Toronto, she cultivated her musical talents through studies in classical piano, theater, and opera. After completing the Musical Theater Performance program at Sheridan College, Hughes began her career performing under the name Allie Hughes, focusing primarily on indie pop and rock music.
In the mid-2000s, Allie Hughes self-released several CDs and EPs, building a local following in Toronto. Among these releases were CollXtion I and Catch EP, both launched in 2015. These EPs featured singles such as “Prime,” “Bitch,” “Never Enough,” and “Catch.” The latter song marked a pivotal moment in her career, charting at number 55 on the Canadian Hot 100. Additionally, “Catch” gained significant attention after pop icon Katy Perry praised it as her "spring jam" on social media, further elevating Hughes' profile in the music industry.
In 2013, Allie X relocated to Los Angeles, where she began collaborating with producers Cirkut and Billboard. This move facilitated her breakthrough release of the single “Catch,” establishing her as a notable emerging artist both in Canada and the United States. Following this, she released her debut extended play, CollXtion I, in 2015, which laid the groundwork for her subsequent musical endeavors.
Allie X's debut studio album, CollXtion II, was released in 2017 and featured notable singles like “Paper Love” and “Need You.” In 2018, she followed up with Super Sunset, and in 2019, an analog version of the album was made available. Her works have demonstrated her unique artistic vision and ability to incorporate various musical styles. Hughes released her second studio album, Cape God, in 2020, which further expanded her musical repertoire. Her third album, Girl with No Face, was released in 2024.
