Angel Haze Biography

Raykeea Raeen-Roes Wilson, known professionally as Angel Haze, was born on July 10, 1991, in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up amidst the influential sounds of 1990s rap and hip-hop, Haze began learning the art of rap during her teenage years. She quickly established herself within the music scene, and in 2012, she made her debut with the EP Reservation, which was released online for free and received significant critical acclaim. This project helped her secure a record deal with Universal Republic Records, later transitioning to Island Records.

Following Reservation, Haze continued to build her discography with the release of another EP, New York, later in 2012, alongside a debut studio album titled Dirty Gold in December 2013. The album featured notable singles such as "Echelon (It's My Way)" and "Battle Cry," the latter of which showcased her collaboration with artist Sia and reached the top twenty on the UK R&B charts.

In addition to her EPs and albums, Angel Haze has released several mixtapes available for digital download, including New Moon (2009), Altered Ego (2011), King (2011), Reservation (2012), and Classick (2012). Her mixtape Reservation has been particularly highlighted as a tribute to her Cherokee heritage and received a score of 88/100 from Metacritic, underscoring its critical success.

Haze has also collaborated with a variety of artists across multiple tracks, including "Can't Trust 'Em" with Dizzy Wright, "Freestyle" with Bassnectar, and "Hell Could Freeze" with Rudimenta. Her broad artistic connections extend to notable collaborations such as "I Love You" with Woodkid, and she recorded the theme song for the film 22 Jump Street alongside Ludacris.

In 2012, she openly addressed her experience of sexual assault in the song "Cleaning Out My Closet," from the mixtape Classick, which incorporated elements from Eminem's song of the same name, highlighting her willingness to confront personal issues through her music.

Most recently, in September 2015, Haze released the mixtape Back to the Woods, signaling her intent to share new material before working on her sophomore album. In March 2017, she released the single "Resurrection," marking another step in her ongoing musical journey.
