Brian McKnight Biography

Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight Sr. was born on June 5, 1969, in Buffalo, New York. He is an American singer-songwriter, actor, record producer, radio personality, and multi-instrumentalist. McKnight's music career began to take shape when he was influenced by his older brother, who was part of the group Take 6. This led McKnight to start recording his own demo tapes, and by the time he was 19, he had caught the attention of Mercury Records, which signed him to his first record deal.

McKnight's debut album, released in 1992, was a moderate success, featuring the singles "The Way Love Goes" and "Goodbye My Love." He went on to release several more albums, including I Remember You (1995) and Anytime (1997). The latter album included the hit singles "You Should Be Mine" and "Anytime," earning McKnight his first Grammy nomination. His contribution to the duet "Love Is" with Vanessa Williams also brought him to the forefront of contemporary R&B.

McKnight's subsequent albums, such as Back at One (1999), Superhero (2001), U Turn (2003), and Gemini (2005), solidified his position as a prominent R&B performer. His music has garnered him numerous award nominations and wins, including 16 Grammy Award nominations. He has also won an American Music Award nomination, an Image Award for Outstanding Male Artist, and a Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul Male Album.

In addition to his music, McKnight has explored other creative outlets. He has appeared in the hit musical Chicago and hosted his own radio show, The Brian McKnight Show. He has also performed at various events, including singing "God Bless America" at the National League Champion Series in 2012. McKnight's most recent album releases include More than Words (2013), An Evening with Brian McKnight (2016), and Genesis (2017).

McKnight's album Genesis featured three Top 30 Urban AC and AC hits: "Everything," "Forever," and "I Want U." He was nominated for two NAACP Image Awards in 2018, including Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Album for Genesis. McKnight has also been working on new music, announcing a tentative studio album titled Bedtime Story in 2018.

In recent years, McKnight has continued to perform and compete in various events. In 2021, he competed on The Masked Singer spin-off The Masked Dancer as "Cricket."
