Brandy Biography

Brandy Rayana Norwood, known mononymously as Brandy, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, model, and actress. Born on February 11, 1979, in McComb, Mississippi, she was raised in Carson, California. Brandy's career began as a backing vocalist for teen groups, and she eventually signed with Atlantic Records in 1993.

Brandy released her self-titled debut album in 1994, which sold six million copies worldwide. The album spawned the singles "Baby" and "I Wanna Be Down," and earned her Grammy nominations for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist. She also joined Boyz II Men as their opening act for their 1995 tour.

In addition to her music career, Brandy gained fame for starring in the UPN sitcom Moesha, which lasted for six years. She also appeared in the television film Cinderella (1997) and the slasher film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998). Her duet with Monica, "The Boy Is Mine," won a Grammy Award and became one of the best-selling female duets of all time.
