Anderson .Paak, born Brandon Park Anderson on February 8, 1986, in Oxnard, California, is an American singer, rapper, and record producer. He developed an interest in music at an early age and began recording and producing his own material as a teenager while performing as a drummer in his family church. By the early 2010s, Anderson decided to pursue a full-time career in music.
His journey in the music industry began with the release of his debut mixtape, O.B.E. Vol. 1, in 2012. He gained significant recognition with the release of his debut album, Venice, in 2014, which included hit singles such as “Drugs,” “Miss Right,” “Might Be,” “Luh You,” and “Off the Ground.” During this time, he also collaborated as a guest artist on tracks for various performers, including Dumfoundead, Verbs, Watsky, and contributed to Dr. Dre and Ice Cube's Compton compilation album.
In 2016, Anderson released his highly acclaimed second album, Malibu, which featured popular tracks such as “Am I Wrong,” “Come Down,” “The Season/Carry Me,” “Room in Here,” and “The Dreamer.” This album received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, further solidifying his status in the music industry. He was also featured on the hit single “Dance Off” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis during this period.
Paak continued his successful trajectory with his third album, Oxnard, released in 2018, and during the 61st Grammy Awards, he won his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance with the non-album single "Bubblin." His fourth album, Ventura, released in 2020, earned him two additional Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for the song “Come Home,” featuring André 3000.
In addition to his solo career, Anderson formed the duo NxWorries with record producer Knxwledge in 2015. He frequently collaborates with the band Free Nationals, which provides instrumental support and serves as backing vocalists during his performances. In 2021, he joined forces with Bruno Mars to create the duo Silk Sonic, with their debut single "Leave the Door Open" reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning multiple awards at the 64th Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
