The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, are an acclaimed American country band hailing from Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1989 by sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer (née Erwin), the original lineup featured vocalist and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy as well as bassist Laura Lynch. The group started by performing bluegrass and country music at local venues and festivals, working tirelessly for six years to gain recognition before signing to Monument Records Nashville in 1995.
