A Thousand Horses is an American country music group formed in 2010 in Nashville by founding members Zach Brown, Graham DeLoach, Bill Satcher, and Michael Hobby. Satcher and Hobby, who met while growing up in South Carolina, began writing songs together as teenagers. DeLoach later joined the group, followed by Brown, completing their initial lineup.
The band gained early recognition with the release of their self-titled EP in 2010, which was well-received both commercially and critically. The EP featured their first single, “Suicide Eyes,” which was included in the reboot of the film Footloose. The inclusion of this track helped garner the group's attention and ultimately led to a recording contract with Republic Nashville.
A Thousand Horses’ major label debut album, Southernality, was released shortly after signing with Republic Nashville. The album experienced significant success, reaching the top five on the country music charts and the top twenty on the mainstream charts. Its standout single, “Smoke,” became a number one country hit, breaking records for the highest debut by a new act. Other notable singles from the album included “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial” and the title track, "Southernality."
The group was recognized for their energetic performances, including their appearance at the Austin City Limits festival in 2014, which led Rolling Stone to label them as the best up-and-coming act for their undeniable energy and stage presence.
In 2023, Zach Brown departed from the band to spend more time with his family, leading to a shift in the group’s dynamic. The remaining members—DeLoach, Satcher, and Hobby—continued to pursue their musical endeavors and released a new album titled The Outside on Highway Sound Records in 2024.
