Asking Alexandria is an English metal band originally formed in 2006 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, by guitarist Ben Bruce. The band went through several lineup changes before becoming officially established in 2008 as a six-piece group with the addition of vocalist Danny Worsnop, drummer James Cassells, guitarist Cameron Liddell, and musicians Joe Lancaster and Ryan Binns. After releasing an initial album, The Irony of Your Perfection, which did not achieve desired success, Bruce regrouped the band in Nottingham, England, to forge a more cohesive sound.
Their breakthrough came with the album Stand Up and Scream, released in 2009. This album is widely regarded as the band's true debut and enjoyed considerable commercial success, reaching the top five on the US charts and also performing well on independent and hard rock lists. The single "The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)" helped establish the band and set the stage for extensive touring opportunities alongside other notable acts.
In 2011, Asking Alexandria released Reckless & Relentless, which featured multiple singles, including “Morte et Dabo,” “Breathless,” “Someone, Somewhere,” and “Closure.” However, it was the 2013 release From Death to Destiny that solidified their presence in the mainstream music scene, yielding hits like “The Death of Me” and “Break Down the Walls.”
Over the years, the band saw changes in its lineup. Notably, Worsnop, Lancaster, and Binns left the group, but the remaining members Bruce, Cassells, Liddell, and new bassist Sam Bettley continued to evolve the band's sound. In early 2015, Worsnop departed but was later replaced by Denis Stoff. The band subsequently released their fifth album, The Black, in 2016, after Stoff's departure, Worsnop returned to the group.
Their self-titled album, released in late 2017, marked a stylistic departure from their earlier works. Following this, they released Like a House on Fire in 2020, showcasing a more straightforward and melodic hard rock sound. This was further explored in their seventh studio album, See What's on the Inside, released in 2021.
In 2023, Asking Alexandria continued to expand their discography with the release of their eighth studio album, Where Do We Go from Here? The band remains significant in the metal genre, known for their energetic performances and evolving music style.
