Alkaline Trio Biography

Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band formed in 1996 in the Chicago suburbs by founding members Matt Skiba, Rob Doran, and Glen Porter. The band initially gained recognition after releasing their debut single, "Sundials," in 1997, followed by an EP titled For Your Lungs Only in 1998. Their first full-length album, Goddamnit, was released in 2000 and received moderate success in the United States.

The band experienced significant success in the UK, where their albums and singles consistently charted over the next decade. Their follow-up album, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire (also 2000), along with releases such as From Here to Infirmary (2001), Good Mourning (2003), Crimson (2005), and Agony & Irony (2008), solidified their popularity. Notable singles include "Stupid Kid," "Time to Waste," and "Mercy Me," with some tracks making their way into the U.S. charts as well.

Member changes occurred early in the band’s history, with Rob Doran departing and being replaced by Dan Andriano, who became a co-lead vocalist alongside Skiba. Following the release of their early albums, drummer Glen Porter also left the group and was succeeded by Mike Felumlee. In 2003, Derek Grant joined the band as the drummer, marking a new era for Alkaline Trio.

In 2010, Alkaline Trio self-released the album This Addiction on their label, Heart & Skull, also working with Epitaph Records. This album aimed to return to their punk rock roots and became their highest-charting album, debuting at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. The band celebrated their 15-year anniversary in 2011 with the release of Damnesia, an album featuring acoustic re-recordings of classic songs.

Alkaline Trio continued to evolve their sound in subsequent albums, including My Shame Is True (2013) and Is This Thing Cursed? (2018). They announced their tenth studio album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, set to be released on January 26, 2024.

In June 2023, after 22 years with the band, Derek Grant departed, with Atom Willard soon replacing him. Despite multiple lineup changes and record label shifts over the years, Alkaline Trio has maintained a dedicated fan base and continues to perform and record new music.
