In February 2015, Nile Rodgers announced he had signed a new record deal with Warner Bros., heralding the release of a new Chic album, the first in over two decades. The lead single from this long-anticipated record, titled "I'll Be There," was released on March 20, 2015, coinciding with the vernal equinox and a total solar eclipse—symbolizing a rebirth for the Chic Organization. This single was not only significant for its release but also because it was a track unearthed from lost Chic demos that Rodgers received back in 2010. The culmination of these efforts marked a new chapter in Rodgers's storied musical journey.
Alongside this new project, Warner Bros. signed a deal with Land of the Good Groove, a label co-founded by Rodgers and Michael Ostin, the son of longtime Warner Bros. head Mo Ostin. In addition to "I'll Be There," Rodgers provided an update on his solo material with another track called "Do What You Wanna Do," and he expressed plans for a Chic-inspired musical that was in the early stages of production. The band showcased their comeback with a performance at the Glastonbury Festival on June 25, 2017, and also rang in the New Year with a concert at the Methodist Central Hall in London on December 31, 2017.
On June 12, 2018, Chic revealed their ninth studio album, It's About Time, initially scheduled for release on September 7 but ultimately launched on September 28, 2018. The lead single from the album, "Till the World Falls," featured contributions from Mura Masa, Vic Mensa, and Cosha and dropped on June 21. It's About Time also showcased a star-studded roster of collaborations, including artists such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Emeli Sande, cementing Chic's status as an enduring force in the music scene.
As excitement continued to build around Chic, Rodgers confirmed on his Facebook account in August 2018 that a tenth album would follow in February 2019. This album, originally titled Executive Realness, was later postponed to May 2019 but did not materialize as planned. Nonetheless, Chic's engagement with audiences remained strong, further highlighted when they served as the opening act for BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing in September 2018.
In 2019, Chic had the honor of opening for the second and fourth legs of Cher's highly publicized tour, continuing to showcase their illustrious music and cross-generational appeal. The collaboration allowed both iconic acts to reach their respective fanbases, emphasizing the timelessness of Chic's music in an age of changing musical landscapes.
With each new project and partnership, Nile Rodgers continues to pave the way for Chic, which he co-founded in 1972 with bassist Bernard Edwards. Known for their landmark hits during the disco era, such as "Le Freak," "Good Times," and "I Want Your Love," Chic's legacy remains impactful. In 2017, the band received their eleventh nomination for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, underscoring the enduring influence of their music and the innovative spirit that Nile Rodgers has brought to the industry for decades.
