Brass Construction Biography
Brass Construction was an American funk group formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1968. The group was originally known as Dynamic Soul and was signed by Sid Maurer and Fred Frank in 1975. They went on to record a string of hit singles and albums through 1985.
The group's music career took off in 1976 with the release of their self-titled debut album, which reached the number ten spot on the mainstream charts and the number one spot on the R&B charts. The album achieved platinum status in the United States and was followed by a series of successful albums, including Brass Construction II, Brass Construction III, Attitudes, Conversations, Renegades, and Conquest.
Brass Construction's hits included "Movin'," "Changin," "Ha Cha Cha (Funktion)," "L-O-V-E-U," "Get Up," "Right Place," "Walkin' the Line," and "Can You See the Light." Their music also appeared in various entertainment mediums and was sampled by artists such as N.W.A., Biz Markie, King Tee, and Cheek.
The group's members over the years included Wade Williamston, Sandy Billups, Morris Price, Larry Payton, Jesse Ward Jr., Michael "Micky" Grudge, Wayne Parris, Alvin Haskin, Duane Cahill, Joseph Arthur-Wong, and Randy Muller. Unfortunately, some of the original members have passed away, including Joseph Arthur-Wong in 1998, Jesse Ward Jr. in 2016, and Larry Payton in 2016.
Brass Construction reunited for a concert on November 28, 2005, at the Bataclan Arena in Paris, France. Although the group is no longer active, their music continues to be celebrated and enjoyed by fans of funk and R&B.
