Cassandra Monique Batie, known professionally as Andra Day, was born on December 30, 1984, in California. She is an accomplished American R&B, soul, and blues singer, songwriter, and actress. Day's vocal abilities emerged early in her life, leading her to attend the School of Creative and Performing Arts in San Diego as a teenager to further develop her skills.

Andra Day gained significant attention in 2012 with her cover of Jessie J's song "Mama Knows Best," which topped the YouTube Music Charts. She subsequently signed with Warner Bros. Records and began working on her debut album, collaborating with renowned producers like Adrian Gurvitz and artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and Questlove.
